Looks like I didn't have to ask about my job after all: when I was going to ask about it last week, my boss mentioned that my last day would be Friday...so I'm back to being unemployed now =(
At home, my bedroom's been undergoing some remodeling, considering how long some of my stuff there has lasted...
As for my job: my boss appreciated the work I did and, because of that, tried to get me hired for the job I applied for earlier. Unfortunately, this was not his decision to make (only the Commissioners can decide that), so someone else got that job, and another will be taking over mine. He also said he was surprised that I had worked at that particular job for so long - it was only supposed to last for six months, but ended up being drawn out to about a year-and-a-half!
A few County employees (from the other building) stopped by on the last two days of work: they came to say their goodbyes, wish me good luck and hoped I would be hired again in the future. I also said goodbye to the employees in the building I was in, and they also wished me good luck. Some even gave me a few gifts: goodbye cards, a gift card and cookies.
Finally, I found out from one of my relatives (indirectly; she told Mom, then Mom told me) that a lot of people in the Courthouse who worked with me were surprised (and appalled) with the Commissioners'* decision to let me go...but the ones who were most appalled by the decision were my parents, considering all that had gone on while I was working there.
(* - Two of them, anyway...one of the Commissioners did want to hire me for that job.)
Even though this job is over, a few good things came out of it:
- I realized I'm very well-liked at the Courthouse.
- I have another reference for my resume, as well as another site for my portfolio.
- I have worked long enough to collect unemployment.
- I will have time to sleep in, which will help offset the sleep I lost while working at my job.
- I will have time to work on things of personal importance, such as (finally) getting my driver's license and working on my (long-overdue) site overhaul.
Now, as for my bedroom: I learned that I've had my bed and furniture since I was one (almost 24 years ago) and the carpeting was there before I was born! We looked for new furniture and carpeting a few weeks ago, agreed on what to get, and bought it.
The room has been repainted and is now a slightly darker (but still light) shade of blue, except for the ceiling, which will remain white. The bed frame has been dismantled, but we're keeping the current mattress for now: it has been moved to the downstairs living room floor so I'll still have a place to sleep (until the "loaner" bed frame arrives). My furniture (a nightstand and dresser with a mirror) has been moved to other rooms, and both the old carpeting and padding have been removed to make room for the new stuff.
I'm not sure what will be done with the furniture, but my Mom will be giving the old bed to one of my aunts. It's got quite a few drawers and is rather high off the ground, as it was made for children...which I was one of, at the time they got it ;P
It'll be nice to see how my bedroom looks once the new carpeting, furniture and bed are installed...and even more so when I can sleep in it again ;)
